The Story of Bender Point
In 2018, we and our friends purchased a piece of property on Chickamauga Lake that was full of potential. The setting was beautiful, but the building perched on the point had seen better days, and the old sports courts tucked into the woods had long since fallen into disrepair.
We named the property Bender Point as a nod to Tyler and our friends, all orthodontists who have spent their careers bending wires to create beautiful smiles.
The land itself has a rich history. Originally developed in 1945 as the Unum Provident Club, it served as a gathering place for executive meetings and employee picnics. Later, the property became home to Camp McClellan, a YMCA day camp where local children spent their summers swimming, playing, and exploring, and making memories. After the property was sold and divided into parcels, it sat largely untouched for more than a decade - until one day, while passing by on the lake, we spotted a "For Sale" sign and decided to take a closer look.
We've been making memories here ever since.
In those early years, we carefully navigated the holes in the aging wooden dock, celebrated our children's birthdays on the deck overlooking the water, and hosted our orthodontic team for tug-of-war competitions, water balloon battles, and afternoons filled with laughter in the woods. Even then, there was something special about this place - a sense of connection, adventure, and possibility.
But Tyler saw something more.
With a vision for what Bender Point could become - and plenty of hard work, determination, and perseverance - the property began to transform. Over time, the dock was rebuilt, the basketball and volleyball courts were restored, and the aging building on the point was thoughtfully renovated.
Today, that building has become The Clubhouse at Bender Point.
In many ways, the property's purpose hasn't changed. What began decades ago as a place where people gathered away from the office to connect, collaborate, and recharge continues today in a new chapter at Bender Point.
We feel honored to be part of the next chapter of this property's story and look forward to welcoming others to experience the magic of Bender Point for themselves.
